2024-25 Federal Budget

Cystic Fibrosis Community Care welcomes the healthcare and cost of living measures announced in the 2024-25 Federal Budget last week. These measures will support the health, wellbeing and financial pressure experienced by our members with Cystic Fibrosis (CF).

The following significant announcements are relevant to the CF community:

$3.4 billion over 5 years for new and amended listings on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).

PBS scripts will be frozen at $31.60 for a year, while concession card holders will have the price frozen at $7.70 for five years.

All tax paying Australians will receive a tax cut with an average decrease of $1888 a year.

$1.9 billion over 5 years announced to increase all Commonwealth Rent Assistance maximum rates by 10 percent from 20 September 2024.

$3.5 billion to extend and expand the Energy Bill Relief Fund, leading to a $300 rebate for all Australian households.

CFCC recently contributed to a cost-of-living inquiry and is pleased to see further measures in this budget that address the impact on communities. In addition, we’re aware many of our members have been anticipating support both with medication access, in particular Kalydeco for rare mutations, and diabetes equipment for those with Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes. CFCC will continue to be involved with advocacy related to these issues and eagerly awaits the upcoming report from the government led diabetes inquiry.
